I really admire Japanese packaging design as I think it is the epitome of Japanese graphic design. Designers who create the packaging will have to think of ways to save money, create the perfect look and give the product something special and innovative to stand out and I think Japanese design does this very well.
This image is packaging for Japanese cookies and I think the simple use of colour, line and imagery is very effective. Also the design of the shape the packaging is creates a sense of modernity and sleekness.
I think the detail that has gone into this product is amazing as it hasn't hindered the design and made it look too decorative. It has been kept simple even though inwrought foil with fibres of washi, Japanese paper have been used to create this handmade effect.
This is a good example of how creative Japanese packaging design can be while still maintaining that simple elegant look about it. The use of simple shapes and colours has created a flower shape and this geometric stylised flower creates a graphic appearance.
I think this design is sophisticated and simple and gives a sense of being special. The techniques used to create the folded paper and outer box folding mechanism are interesting and crisp. Having each sweet individually wrapped in tissue paper and then having those wrapped in more paper and a box creates extravagance, elegance and indulgence.
I think the website describes this image best as pushing ‘the concept of complex simpleness’ I think this image makes a statement and that is that if you buy something like this then you will probably enjoy the packaging as much as the product. I like the care and attention that go into the packaging designs as they always have a sense of sophistication and decadence.
